How to apply
Eligibility and accessibility
The competition is open to conductors of all nationalities who will be between 18 and 32 years of age on Saturday 20th October 2018. We will ask you for your date of birth on the Application Form and, should you be successful in getting to the Grand Final, a valid passport or other internationally accepted ID will be required by the Administrator as proof of your age when you arrive at the competition.
It is essential that you can be available in London on both Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2018 for the duration of the competition, and you will be asked at the end of the application form to confirm this. Late arrival may result in disqualification.

You will also be asked to confirm that you understand travel and accommodation are at your own cost. We do not expect you to book your travel yet but we recommend you check the expiry date of your passport or ID before applying.
We will be pleased to assist you with supporting letters for any VISA application, should it be required. If you anticipate any problems getting a travel VISA then please feel free to contact us about this before you submit your application.
Please note that the language used during the competition will be English, and the Application Form is similarly only available in English.
Only completed applications will be accepted and there are a number of documents or sections of text that you will be asked to either upload or type into the form:

Personal details
In this section we will ask you to provide your name and contact details, as well as your date of birth and nationality. Please also notify us of any special needs or requirements that you have in order to be able to take part in the competition, or any pre-existing medical conditions or allergies that you think we should be made aware of for your safety and ours.
We’d also like to know where you heard about the competition, as this information helps us to spread the word about our activities in the most effective way.

Qualifications and experience
You will then be asked some questions about your musical training and qualifications as well as your conducting experience, including any professional or non-professional conducting posts you have held. If you have a musical Curriculum Vitae (CV) then it may be a useful document to refer to for this information.
The aim of these questions is to give the national jury a basic overview of your experience.

You should similarly be prepared to list any conducting posts you have held, or currently hold, including the dates that you were in post.

Website information
We will ask you for a few personal details that are expressly for use in programmes and other publicity about you and about the competition. This will include your performer name (if it is different from your given names) as well as the name of your home city and country.

Digital photo and biography
The Application Form offers guidance on what to include in your biography and what style of photo you should upload. These will be used online and in the press to announce the six competitors who have reached the Grand Final of the competition.
Your photo and biography (along with your name and the name of your home city and country) will be used by LICCC to publicise your involvement in the competition on the LICCC website, in concert programmes and in the national UK press.
Your digital photo should ideally be professionally produced and must be in a high resolution. We understand that everyone has a different style and preference when it comes to promotional photographs and press pictures, but please ensure that the photo clearly shows your face and is a good likeness of you, taken no more than 2 years ago, and presented in full colour. You can find examples of suitable types of picture and biography on The Jury page or The Team page.
The file should ideally be either in JPEG or PNG format.

Video
The video upload is your entry for the first round of the competition. Please read the Repertoire page where you will find an explanation of what music you should conduct on the video. You should also check the Rules of the competition again carefully to make sure that you fulfil all the requirements.
The total duration of music (not including breaks) must last no more than 10 minutes and must have been recorded within the last year, and it must be entirely un-edited.
The video must clearly show the whole of your body (from head to feet) from the front angle, as though the camera is one of the singers, and the Jurors will want to see all of your conducting technique so be careful not to place music stands or singers in the way of the camera.
You will need to give details of the pieces and the performers (at least five) in the video, as well as stating when the video was recorded.

Grand Final repertoire
You will need to suggest some repertoire for the Grand Final (second round) of the competition. Please again read the Repertoire page where you will find an explanation of how to choose this music.
LICCC has published two Repertoire Lists (A and B) for the Grand Final to include pieces ranging from the Renaissance period to Contemporary works.
You will be asked to enter details of 8 pieces (4 from Repertoire List A and 4 from Repertoire List B), with your most preferred pairing at the top. This is so the Jury can ensure competitors do not conduct the same pieces, except for the set piece.
We strongly recommend that you take some time to consider your programme choices before submitting them.

You will then be asked to consent to several things – please make sure that you accept these terms before you proceed with submitting your application.
In particular, the Association of British Choral Directors may wish to offer you a place at their Training Event, which will run during the competition weekend in association with LICCC. They will need access to your personal details and some other information in order to offer you this opportunity, which will only be available to those not taking part in the Grand Final.
We will process and use the information you provide on the Application Form for a variety of purposes. Please read our Data Privacy Notice for information about how your information will be used.

Finally, to complete your online application, you will need to pay a registration fee of £30 (GBP) net by Friday 25th May 2018.
The registration fee is non-refundable.
When you submit your Application Form you will be automatically redirected to the Payment page. You can also find the payment information in the Rules of the competition. You do not need to make your payment at the same time as submitting your application, so long as both are completed before the deadline date.
If you make your payment by International transfer please make sure to include your full name as the reference, and keep proof of your payment in case you need to show it to us later.
