2018 repertoire list
In both rounds you are advised to choose pieces which demonstrate your versatility as a conductor. The adjudicators will want to see a demonstration of the candidate’s range and it is most important that your programme reflect technical and emotional variety in your conducting.
Pre-Recorded Video Round
- Candidates must conduct their own free choice of repertoire.
- Candidates are not expected to choose pieces from List A or List B (see below) but may do so if they wish.
- Please choose either two or three contrasting pieces, whose combined length does not exceed ten minutes.
Grand Final
- Candidates must choose four programmes, in order of preference, each consisting of one piece from List A and one piece from List B (see below).
- You may not select any piece more than once in your four programmes
- One piece in each programme must have been composed before 1900 and the other after 1900.
- The combined length of your two pieces must not exceed eight minutes, using the timings published here.
- You will be informed on or before Friday 22 June 2018 which two own-choice pieces you are required to prepare.
- During the weekend of the competition, you will be allowed approximately 120 minutes rehearsal time on your two own-choice pieces.
- There will also be a third, compulsory “set piece” supplied to competitors in the Grand Final on or before Friday 22 August 2018, which they will prepare in separate, adjudicated, rehearsals.
- The choirs participating will have undertaken the note-learning of all pieces before the competition.
